A COMMITMENT TO
THE ENVIRONMENT
 |
The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians is carrying on a tradition thousands of years in the making by doing all it can to protect the environment. |
The Tribe’s comprehensive Environmental Assessment for the Nüwü Casino Resort & RV Park will address mitigation measures for impacts in the following areas, including, but not limited to:
- Light pollution (“night skies”)
- Air and noise pollution
- Water quality
- Biological and cultural resources
- Traffic and transportation
- Land use and resources
- Public services and infrastructure
- Visual resources, aesthetics

|
The Tribe is committed to using cutting edge exterior lighting technology to significantly reduce effects on the area’s night skies, one of the region’s biggest attractions.
The overall project also will include construction of a state-of-the-art sewage treatment facility.
|
The Tribe also is exploring the feasibility of building a one-megawatt solar energy plant and investigating cutting-edge absorption chiller cogeneration technology to help power its facilities, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help protect the environment. |
 |
An example of the Tribe’s overall commitment to protecting the environment can be found at its Spotlight 29 Casino Resort, which is undergoing a multi-million dollar expansion that will include a 200-room, four-star hotel and spa.
As part of this remarkable project, the Tribe is building a two-megawatt co-generation power plant that recycles energy, reduces emissions and decreases strain on California’s overworked power grid. When completed, the solar-based power facility will be the largest such operation in the United States.
